Workforce Development
BJ Services
BJ Services is a leader in servicing the world's oil wells. The work is competitive and potentially dangerous for their employees, so they have to have the
best-trained people on board. The vision of the BJ Services Corporate University is to develop a Verifiably Competent Workforce Worldwide.
The company employs 16,000 people in 50 nations. Requiring people to take training courses often necessitated travel and being away from the rigs for 7 to
8 days at a time. This has an obvious hit on expenses and productivity.
As the company began to understand that gaining competence as a work requirement was satisfying on one level for employees, they realized employees would
be further inspired and motivated if they could earn college credit for that competency training. The company’s driving question then was, "Who can
we partner with that will not just help us get our people trained, but educated?"
That's when they found Bellevue University and formed an education partnership that enables BJ Services to offer its employees the Engineering Handbook
Course online – a valuable career-essential course. Through the partnership a Bachelor of Science in Management degree was
developed which includes content contextualized to the petroleum industry. Employees also have access to
bachelor's and master's degrees online.
